Balla was a futuristic Artist who grew up in the late 1800's. He was born in Turin, Italy and was an amateur photographer as well as an artist. Everything he knew about Art was all self taught and he only attended 2 months of art school in his entire life, which was at Albertina Academy. At the beginning, most of his work was of portraits, landscapes and caricatures that were partly influenced by the Italian Divisionists. After a while he started teaching other people himself, such pupils were Boccioni & Severini. Going along with his Art, Balla also named his two daughters unusual names (Propeller & Light). His vision expanded through out time and he was soon not only painting, but dabbling in sculptures and even costume and theater design. He later died in 1958 whilst in Rome.
Balla originally started # creating art work to 'reproduce reality'. He wanted to show the world as he saw it. He never intended for his paintings to be beautiful, but rather to show how things moved and how it could be expressed through art.
